WHAT IS N.E.W.T.?

N.E.W.T. is simply the acronym and a shorter way of saying Non-Emergency Wheelchair Transport, which is precisely what we do, transport wheelchair bound clients to doctors appointments, social events, family parties or anywhere else they would like to go. And yes, our logo is a newt in a wheelchair.

ARE YOU LIKE OR SIMILAR TO PARATRANSIT?

We are exactly the same as paratransit, medicar, medivan, or non-emergency medical transport. The industry has different names depending on what part of the country you are in, but they all function the same.

DO YOUR DRIVERS HAVE SPECIAL TRAINING OR CERTIFICATIONS?

All our employees are both certified by the state and have taken specific medicar safety training courses.

WHAT DO YOU CHARGE?

Our standard rates are $50 each way , plus $3.00 per mile. However, as every trip is different in point of origin, length and duration, we would be happy to quote you a price based on the specifics of your trip. We also have charter rates available for trips that are based more on length of time rather than distance. Please call or fill out the request form to receive an exact quote.

CAN YOU PROVIDE LONG DISTANCE TRANSPORTATION?

Yes, we can transport to any location in the continental US. Please give us a call to get a quote for long distance transport.

WHAT TYPE OF VEHICLES DO YOU USE TO TRANSPORT?

We use specially modified ADA compliant ramp vans to comfortably and safely transport the individual in the wheelchair. We have found this type of vehicle to have a more car-like ride, and entering and exiting is quicker than using a hydraulic lift like the full size vans. This is a definite advantage when the weather in the Charlotte area is bad.

HOW MUCH ADVANCE NOTICE DO YOU NEED TO SCHEDULE TRANSPORTATION?

While we will always do our best to accommodate a last minute request, it is best to contact us at least several days to a week before the transport date.

IS ANYONE ELSE ALLOWED TO RIDE ALONG WITH THE PERSON IN THE WHEELCHAIR?

Yes, two additional people can ride along at no additional cost.

DO YOU TRANSPORT PEOPLE FROM PRIVATE HOMES?

Yes, we do transport from private residences and that is where our Bed to Bed service is especially helpful. Many companies that offer service from a private residence will only offer curb to curb service. They will not come into your home to assist you. If required we will assist you in getting out of you bed or chair into your wheelchair as well as down any stairs you might have.

CAN YOU BRING PEOPLE UP OR DOWN STAIRS?

Yes, we have the professional equipment and experience to safely bring someone up or down multiple flights of stairs. Please contact us to request a quote for this service.

CAN YOU TRANSPORT POWERED CHAIRS OR SCOOTERS?

YES, our vehicles can easily accommodate power chairs and scooters.

WILL YOU SEND US AN INVOICE?

We are P.O.T., that is PAYMENT ON TRANSPORT. We collect payment at the end of the trip by cash, check or any major credit card.

DOES ANY INSURANCE PAY FOR THIS TYPE OF TRANSPORTATION?

We do not accept Medicaid, and neither Medicare nor most insurance companies will pay for medicar transportation.

OTHER THEN DOCTORS APPOINTMENTS, WHAT TYPE OF PLACES WILL YOU TRANSPORT TO?

We have brought people to weddings, funerals, birthday, holiday and anniversary parties, the, the races, the mall, the theater, museums, to and from the airport, church and just about any place you can name that someone in a wheelchair is not going to let their disability prevent them from going to.

IF WE NEED A WHEELCHAIR, CAN YOU PROVIDE ONE?

Yes, all of our vans are equipped with a very comfortable extra large wheelchair.
